Smithfield Foods, Inc. and its operating companies, Smithfield Packing, Farmland Foods, John Morrell Food Group and Murphy-Brown, LLC, are aware of a recent fraudulent recruitment attempt by persons using craigslist.com to deceive and possibly victimize unsuspecting job applicants. We have notified the FBI of this. The recruitment scam involves the promise of a position, a salary offer, and requests personal information along with the request for the applicant to purchase gifts … with the issuance of a certified check purported to come from the company.
Smithfield Foods and its operating companies do NOT use craigslist.com to advertise position vacancies. We use a number of Internet sites which include smithfieldfoods.com and monster.com among others … NOT craigslist.com.
IF YOU RECEIVE AN UNSOLICITED REQUEST FOR PERSONAL INFORMATION OR AN UNSOLICITED OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT FROM ANY OF THE ABOVE COMPANIES …. DO NOT RESPOND. WE WOULD APPRECIATE KNOWING OF ANY UNSCRUPULOUS OR DECEITFUL EMPLOYMENT TACTICS AND ASK THAT YOU CALL OUR HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICE AT 757-357-1595 TO REPORT THEM.
If you believe you are a victim of fraudulent internet employment practices, please contact the Federal Government at http://www.ic3.gov where you may file a complaint.
We regret that unscrupulous people would attempt to target individuals seeking career opportunities with our companies. For more information about career opportunities with the Smithfield family of companies, please visit http://www.smithfieldfoods.com.
