Business Manager, Grain Procurement
Your Opportunity
The Grain Procurement Business Manager is responsible for the day-to-day execution of the grain strategy within designated regions. Responsibilities include grain procurement coupled with involvement in operations and sales. Role requires strong collaboration across many business functions to effectively manage needed supplies. The role is responsible for supporting and improving key initiatives and projects across the grain procurement team.

$78,500 - $130,500
Core Responsibilities
- Manages the grain elevators and oversees the elevator managers within designated region(s).
- Plans and organizes the key initiatives related to the procurement function across the designated region. Builds Action Plans with achievable timelines.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with feed mill managers to facilitate achievement of key initiatives.
- Researches the business plans and activities of area competitors and utilize the information to develop business strategies enabling Smithfield Hog Production to outperform its local competition in terms of local grain pricing and market share.
- Oversees grain basis for elevators & feed mills for designated region(s), leading forecasting of supply and demand.
- Develops, grows and maintains relationships with local farmers in draw area.
- Coordinates with grain merchandising team to facilitate strategic sales.
- Collaborates with transportation team on shipments of grain inbound and outbound.
- Develops and maintains grain procurement reporting to include daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Ability to utilize data and transpose it into action items that can be executed by the procurement teams.
- Responsible for monitoring and ensuring agreed upon obligations are met between both Smithfield and suppliers.
- Utilizes technology to demonstrate where opportunities exist to improve business. Monitors and tracks budgets and plans.
- Understands and interprets markets and establishes excellent business relationships with producers to support procurement with suppliers.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
- Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management, required.
- Understands system capabilities and finds ways to improve system performance.
- Capability to synthesize data from multiple resources to build actionable recommendations.
- Effective critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Economic and math skills, and the ability to analyze information and data.
