We’re serving Smithfield communities and helping to build a future for our employees’ children.

First established in 2002, the Smithfield Foundation is a nonprofit organization that acts as the philanthropic wing of our company. Since its inception, the Smithfield Foundation has been proud to provide educational scholarships to the dependent children and grandchildren of our full-time and retired employees. These scholarships are now available at the following 15 colleges and universities: Christopher Newport University, Fayetteville State, Hampden-Sydney College, Iowa State, Johnson and Wales, Kansas State, Norfolk State, NC State, North Carolina A&T, Paul D. Camp Community College, Radford University, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Virginia Tech, and Virginia Union. To date, the Smithfield Foundation has awarded over 650 annual scholarships worth more than $4 million.

Among its other activities, the Foundation provides ongoing support for initiatives such as An Achievable Dream, Christopher Newport University, Science Bound, and Smithfield High School. In 2016, it made a $40,000 donation to the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation, a $25,000 donation to Virginia State University, and provided support to school districts in North Carolina, Utah, and other locations where the company operates. The Smithfield Foundation has also recently widened its scope to align with the company’s other core community priorities, which include the support of hunger relief efforts and military veterans.
